| | | | | | VILLAGE FOCUS INTERNATIONAL (VFI) INFORMATIONVillage Focus International is responsible for implementing the day-to-day operations of the project and managing and monitoring all aspects of the project. The Rights-LINK Lao project is one of the major projects within VFI (See Annex 7 for the linkages to VFI's other projects). It will appoint a Lao Coordinator to be directly responsible for the project as well as component managers for each project area. VFI is responsible for coordinating with different actors, establishing annual plans and working procedures, disbursing money to key partners as agreed in the work plans as well as monitoring the project and administering finances. 2010 represents VFI's 10th year of work in Laos and 7th in Cambodia. During this period, VFI has worked in almost 200 remote and vulnerable villages, focusing on local leadership development in an effort to bring about positive social change. VFI is built upon the leadership of well-trained, dynamic and motivated local staff. Lao and Cambodian people are uniquely invested in the long-term well-being of their own communities. They understand the needs and priorities for development, as well as the most effective strategies to achieve them. They too often, however, lack critical technical skills and resources. The marriage of local leadership and international support is the most effective way to address long term capacity building as well as immediate development needs. Program Area #1: HEALTHY VILLAGES & LOCAL LEADERSHIP 'HEALTH', in this context, encompasses a community's physical, social, environmental, spiritual, intellectual and economic well being. Where people live a primarily subsistence life directly off the land, issues are complex and inter-related, and require local knowledge, leadership and participation as the starting point for effective and sustainable development

Program Area #2: LAND & LIVELIHOODS Land – forest, mountains, rivers, and agricultural areas – is the natural storehouse of food, medicine, building materials, medicine and salable products for rural peoples in VFI’s target communities in Laos and Cambodia. Land tenure, knowledge of rights, the capacity to have a voice in policy decisions, and the opportunity to learn and incorporate best practices to improve opportunities, are essential elements for local people to maintain a respectable standard of living and to enable them to be good stewards of the natural resources that sustain them.
The Rights-LINK Lao Project falls under this Program area of VFI's. For the other projects that are run here, please click the following link.
Program Area #3: PROTECTION & EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN & CHILDREN (PEWC) Laos and Cambodia are destination and source countries for trafficking, a form of moden-day slavery far too common in this part of the world. Pedophilia, forced prostitution, labor abuses, and other forms of exploitation are common and increasing, especially as global economic issues force more rural people into poverty. VFI works to prevent, protect and reintegrate victims, at the policy as well as community levels, with local government and through regional networks. For more information on this Program, please click here
We hugely appreciate and rely upon all donations, so if you wish to support VFI in helping the vulnerable people of Laos and Cambodia you can donate easily online at our donations page.
